Huge Victory for

Ceasefire Protestors!

In California, the Bay Bridge 78 protestors received a huge win when the court agreed to dismiss all charges against the protestors on completion of 2 months informal diversion.

We are proud to have worked with these amazing activists to achieve this victory and to have been part of their defense team.

Find out more about our efforts to Drop the Charges against all ceasefire protestors.

Thousands around the U.S. have been arrested during protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and to Let Gaza Live. From California to D.C., people of conscience have taken a stand to stop the U.S. government's blank check for a genocidal war that is inflicting devastating losses of civilian life, including thousands of children. Each day the death toll of Palestinian families grows, neighborhoods are leveled, and families are buried under rubble still to be dug out. People are engaging in protest to insist on a permanent ceasefire.

In California, the Center for Protest Law and Litigation is working as part of the Bay Bridge 78 defense team. The Bay Bridge 78 acted to call attention to this ongoing genocide while President Biden was in town and have been over-charged for their actions by the San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.

The Center for Protest Law & Litigation filed a motion in San Francisco’s superior court on February 23, 2024 on behalf of the Bay Bridge 78 calling for the court to dismiss the charges for their activism challenging the U.S. government’s unwavering support for Israel’s genocidal siege on Gaza. The Motion asks for dismissal in the “interests of justice,” recognizing that the protestors acted out of conscience to stop their government’s complicity and facilitation of the raging slaughter of Palestinians.

The prosecution of the Bay Bridge 78 for their courageous acts is disproportionate and reflects anti-Palestinian bias in the District Attorney’s office, which compromises the Bay Bridge 78’s fundamental right to due process and equal protection.

On February 8, 2024, the San Francisco Standard published a series of emails from Assistant District Attorney Michael Menesini, who, using his San Francisco government email address, described Palestinians as “brutal Arab invaders,” “hate mongers,” and “Nazis” who need to be “sent back to their native homelands.”

The anti-Palestinian bias in the San Francisco’s DA office means that it cannot prosecute the Bay Bridge 78 in the fair and impartial manner the Constitution requires, and the CPLL and the entire Bay Bridge 78 defense team are urging the DA to drop the charges against the Bay Bridge 78 immediately and work to eradicate the anti-Palestinian bias that exists within its office.
